Bedfordshire: 3% of schools not good enough11.02.35am GMT Fri 24th Nov 2006 The Tory County Council are hailing it a great success that just over 3% (3.18%) of our schools are excellent. Yet still the results across the county are struggling to meet the potential that the county has within it. 'In a county with the levels of affluence that Bedfordshire has we should have many more schools listed in the outstanding list. We have had a Tory administration on this council for many years, you would have thought that the educational achievement and lack high standards would have been tackled much earlier.' says Lib Dem Education Spokesperson Cllr Susan Gaszczak. 'Support for schools and teachers has been poor, schools have struggled to achieve the best they can for children without much strategic leadership from the Tory administration. The County must act fast to ensure that better support and guidance is given to achieve this status.' The Lib Dem Group on the County Council congratulate the schools listed in the outstanding list as well as the 15 other childcare providers, over double the number of schools, that have achieved this list this year.
